Enciclopèdia Castellera, volume 4. Anthropology and Sociology

Bibliography

Volume 4 of the Enciclopèdia Castellera was presented at the headquarters of the Castellers de Lleida. Xavier Brotons, the encyclopaedia’s director, described the volume’s significance and the new perspective it brings to the world of human towers. The speakers were joined by Carles Puig-Gros, president of the Castellers de Lleida, and Jaume Rutllant, the city councillor for culture.

GIAM members and professors Toni Costes and Pere Lavega developed the volume with Guillermo Soler. At the presentation, they explained the foundations of their study of human towers, tracing their history and development.

The first part documents and examines how the groups operate and the different structures they use. The second considers, analyses and records the culture of human towers and its anthropology and sociology in Catalan society throughout its history. It also discusses the relationship between human towers and the process by which they take on the characteristics of a sport.
